Separation Poem

I Miss You

Hey Mum and Dad

How are you?
Are you happy where you are?
I miss you.

How is Leyla?
Is she still causing everyone to tell her to shut up?
I miss you.

How is Scarlett?
Is she still making food that tastes like heaven?
I miss you.

How is Nana?
Is she still making sausage rolls and tea every Sunday?
I miss you.

How is Pops?
Is he still doing his crosswords every day?
I miss you.

How is Nina?
Is she still whining at you to feed her?
I miss you.

I wonder every day if you still do these things.
I wish I had never left.
I wish I could still jump in the car every Sunday to go to Nana and Pops for morning tea.
I wish that on Mondays I could walk home after school every day, see Scarlett at home, and then bike off to Lytton for band practice and drum lessons.
I wish that on Tuesdays and Thursdays I could get home, change into my togs, and go swimming with Dad and Leyla at the Olympic Pools.
I miss sitting down in front of the TV to watch the Big Bang during dinner with you all.

As I sit on this plane back to you, I wonder if everything is still the same as it was, or if everything has changed so much that I won’t recognise you all.
I hope that you will accept me again, let me adjust to any changes that have happened.
I hope that you will help me to find myself again.

As I sit, I wonder.

I Miss You.

Nz Disaster Poem

The Ship

I remember the pain.

The burning pain.

I remember the light.

The bright light.

I remember the men.

The men who tried to save me.

I remember the lost.

The ones who left.

I remember the water.

The water that embraced me.

I remember my sister.

She took the men.

The Men

We remember the fire.

We remember the lost.

We remember our captain, who left us.

We remember our ship,

The beautiful Fiery Star.

Aqueducts

Aqueducts

What are the aqueducts made out of -

Concrete mixed with volcanic ash, as the volcanic ash made it stronger.

What were they used for -

The Roman aqueducts were used to transport fresh water to highly populated areas so that
they could keep clean, because with all the people living so close together, so there was always
a chance that sickness could spread and kill out a whole city.

How were they made -

Roman aqueducts were made by creating columns and putting wooden scaffolding until you had
put all the stone blocks and the keystone in so it wouldn’t fall.

Basic history -

They were built over a period of about 500 years, from 312 B.C. to A.D. 226. Many High
ranking rulers often had them built; the Roman emperors Augustus, Caligula, and Trajan all
ordered aqueducts built.

Why did Romans use arches -

Using volcanic sand, the Romans created a very strong and durable type of concrete.
Arches made of this substance could support a lot of weight. As a result, Romans were able
to build massive structures, such as aqueducts, which provided water to cities.

Archway

Arch Reflection

1. What skills did you learn during the designing and making of the archway?
I learned to use the hand saws, which every time I used them, I would get sore hands because of how
hard I gripped the handles. I also learned how to use the sander, which I was extremely scared of
at first because I have an irrational fear of machines.
2. What problems did you come across when making your arch? Why?
We had to create another block because someone had stolen one of our blocks.
3. How did resolve any issues faced?
We got some more wood and created another block of wood, that fit perfectly.
4. What would you do differently next time to ensure your construction is the same as your plan?

Next time, we should try to make sure that the arch is the correct measurements.

Paper Planes

Paper Planes Task

1st plane -
This plane barely flew at all. I really failed at this one. This won’t be my final paper plane hopefully.

2nd plane - This one I didn’t make correctly. I think I missed out a fold or something.

3rd plane - I completely gave up on this one. It got confusing halfway through. The youtube video I used was obviously not very well made.

4th plane - Beautiful. Works. This one actually flew but kept on going higher. I will probably put my own time into this plane to upgrade it. And figure out how to make sure it doesn’t just go up.

Paper Plane Modification Observations

Modification made
What specifically did you change about your original design?
Why I made the Modification
What do you expect will happen when you fly your plane?
What actually happened
Did you achieve the expected outcome or did something else happen?
Next steps
What are you going to do to improve this specific modification? Do you need to?
I taped the side together so that it would be more even, and tilted the wings down slightly.
I made the modification because the plane wasn’t flying that far, and was going off the path. I expect that the plane will go farther and in a straighter line.
The plane did not go as far as before but did stay in a slightly straighter shape and line.
I think my next steps would be to figure out how to make it fly farther, and if I could change its shape a little to make that happen.
